Affordable Framing Options Framing can be an expensive proposition, but there are economic solutions with great-looking frames for do-it-yourself framing.
Framing is actually not as hard as you think, all you need is a pair of clean hands, a clean table or surface to work on and access to some affordable but quality ready-made or vintage frames and you’ll have your new work hung in no time. When shopping for your frame it is a good idea to have the dimensions of the art work with you, or bring a piece of cardboard that is the same size, so you can easily visualise how it will fit in the frame.NOTE: My unframed works are designed to fit commercially available frames in standard sizes, for example A3 or 7” x 9” photo frames. Ready-made frames from specialist framing shops Many professional framers offer great quality ready-made frames that you can purchase and take home yourself. These are usually sized to standard paper sizes and are a cheaper alternative to custom framing. A quick online search should provide you with a list of framing shops within your city/suburb. Vintage frames I love looking through opportunity shops and thrift stores, and they often have great frames available for a few dollars. Frames often turn up in garage sales as well. Once you find a frame you love you may like to have a new card mount cut to suit your artwork. It has been my experience that framers are more than happy to cut mounts to fit your great vintage find. IKEA IKEA stock a range of inexpensive, fairly well made frames in an array of sizes. IKEA has a pretty extensive range, you should be able to find a frame to suit your needs. Kmart, Target, Big W and Officeworks Kmart, Target Big W and Officeworks all have super affordable framing options. Their frames are often sized to standard paper sizes so all you need is to find a style to suit your decor.
